Started my 1st day riding after staying 3 nights with Dale and Litz.I was told the sun rises as early as 5 in the morning, so I went to bed early last night in order to start as early possible to beat the working traffic in the Manila city.Litz woke up early as well to prepare breakfast as well some sandwiches for take away. Dale had even arranged his worker to lead me out from the city with his motorbike. After saying goodbye and i was ready to roll at 6am with a motorbike leading the way. The morning was cool after a short spell of rain during the midnight. The traffic was mild and manageable but was getting little heavier after he left me at 13km mark.While resting at a petrol station to fill up my MSR fuel bottle ( 30 php ),another local who just completed his security duty came out to propose i cycle with him as my route is the same to his house along the Mac Arthur Highway. He leads me to Rizal Park where i spent some time taking pictures and also the famous Zero km stone marker. I was left alone again to continue north but the traffic by then already congested with many jeepneys and white van cutting and stopping in front of you every now and then to pick up or drop off passengers. You needed a steel of nerve, full concentration and sharp reflexes to avoid hitting them. Fed up with this,i started looking at my gps for a smaller road closer to the coast, and it was indeed a smart decision taking the M.H. Del Pilar road where you only have trishaws, bicycles and motorbikes mostly, completely missing are all the annoying jeepneys. Obando is a small town with narrow street and i started to have many eyes staring at my bike as most likely they haven't seen such a funny bike before. This is a lowland region with vast lakes covered on both sides of the small, often you could see that houses were built just by the lakeside. There were 2 sections where the water level overflow from one side to the other and I was forced to remove my shoes to push over, luckily the water level did not enter my panniers. At about noon time i rode pass a small village called Taliptip and was approached by a cyclist Erik,he invited me for lunch in his house, his wife Rena and his younger son were so friendly that it seems so naturally i have to call it a day here to enjoy the hospitality of the people of Taliptip.
Thank you Dale n Litz and your worker for guiding me out from the city. I shall return...
