After 3 days of riding flat terrain, today I finally got a taste of the Philippines mountains. The climb started from Rosario Y-junction,turning left into Kennon road,a narrow winding country road which follows the Bued River flowing down from the mountain top. There is a tollgate at Camp1,but for bicycle is free as the guard just waved me passed.Followed by Camp2,3,4,5,6 as i worked myself up gradually, stopping whenever the needs arises, traffic was quite heavy on both directions and made worse by some roadworks along certain sections closing half of the road,i had to push my bike as it is dangerous to share half of the narrow road with other vehicles. The climbs seem to be never ending as i started to feel tired and the thought of just setting up my tent by the roadside when i saw a empty space with a stream water from the mountain, but Baguio is just another 15km and the time 2pm is still early.Taking it easy and slowly with my lowest gear at 4kmh snail space,i pushed on with encouragement waves and hello from the passing vehicles.Steel determination finally saw me arriving at Camp7,the last camp before the Baguio city center. Using my gps to find a guesthouse nearby, and it was a bad decision as the way to the guesthouse was too steep to even pushing, luckily 2 local men helped me pushed up the steep slope, the trouble did not end here as i couldn't locate the guesthouse, day is getting dark and my lucky star shine at the right moment with Leonard and wife Maria came to my rescue by offering a place to set up my tent in his yet to completed house. What an exhaustive day with dramatic ending.
